Bargaining Update - May 31, 2019

posted Jun 2, 2019, 8:14 PM by Gail Sawatzky
We met with the Company today, continuing our discussion on monetary and non-monetary issues.  While there has been some agreement on some of the non-monetary issues, there continues to be a general message of “Not Interested” from Directwest on important bargaining issues brought forward by the membership.  Wages and compensation are a big priority from the membership.  The monetary wage discussions have been the most disappointing part of negotiations.

We are asking for fair wages and this does not appear to be an option from Directwest.

With that being said, we are officially declaring an impasse at the bargaining table.

We are writing up the impasse under the legislation of the Saskatchewan Employment Act.  The labour minister will review the impasse and appoint a mediator as a third party to help us negotiate to get a fair Collective Agreement.

We will keep you updated as we get more news on the mediator appointment and mediation dates.

Thank you for all the support and solidarity you have shown for the bargaining committee during this round of bargaining.  Fairness is a basic principle which everyone deserves, including the employees of Directwest.  Please continue the chatter and discussions with your co-workers, family and friends about fairness in collective bargaining for crown corporation workers.

In solidarity

Your Bargaining Committee
